"Neil drives a beetle and a fancy beetle" (1500sand535)

I got my VW back from the dealer for a couple of little things and then cleaned it nicely and promptly listed it for sale. I’m jonesing to save the money or go 335d shopping.
So what did it decide to do today? Dashboard lit up like a Christmas tree and misfires on at least one cylinder. Because of course it did.
Leads me to my question, I can’t recall AAA’s rules; will they tow from a house to a dealer? I know what you’re thinking “call AAA and ask” but my wife is the member and she is out of town.
The dealer is 5 miles away and I dunno if I wanna limo it al the way there. Especially since I don’t trust them 100%.
Picture my daughter took at a car show for your time(almost all her pictures are cutoff weird or have her finger in front of the lens but she loves taking them so I let her do it)

Why wouldn’t they?
Only caveat: my AAA club only has towing benefits of 3 miles on the basic plan, so obviously you need to be within range.

As far as I know AAA doesn’t care where they tow it, but you pay after a certain distance depending on your plan.

I think of AAA as “roadside” or emergency assistance; neither of which really applies here. Just don’t want to pay $75-100

Yeah, they’ll tow from anywhere to anywhere. Just tell them that there’s a cylinder misfire and you can’t drive it.

If it is tagged and insured they have no problem towing from your house, I’ve done it with a flat to the tire store since my car has no spare. It’s when you buy a project and try to get AAA to pay for the tow home you run into problems.

Not AAA, but I’ve used the towing coverage on my insurance to tow a car to the dealer when the clutch slave cylinder went out.

I think I had my wife call once when I was eyeing up a project car and why I’m thinking they have rules.

They don’t care, they just won’t tow from one place to another. So if you had it towed home for example, they wouldn’t then tow it to the dealer. It needs to be tagged/insured, but other than that I’ve never had an issue.

They don’t expect you to be your own mechanic just because the car is at home. I’ve called AAA to my home numerous times (though I think always for battery issues rather than tows).

It depends on where you are.
In my experience, yes, they’ll come to your house and tow / jump / whatever. My mom tried to get a jump where she lived (in Philly) and they said no, because she was at home. So 95% yes, 5% are your odds.

Yeah, I found that out the hard way. Now I have the RV plus plan, it’ll go to the state line of something like that. Definitely worth the upgrade.

Really, tagged and insured? I haven’t had them ask me about that with the few donated vehicles I’ve had towed to our shop. They may have had plates though, but I know at least one wasn’t valid. Maybe it’s because I have the upgraded plan, but I don’t get any hassles, half the time I don’t even have to be at the pickup end of the tow. A lot of discretion rests with the driver, except for the mileage. But for my plan it’s a non issue.

Yeah I’ve found they don’t really care in practice, short tows they certainly don’t seem to mind with project cars
. But if you’re dragging a project you just bought from out of state, they might actually enforce the rule.
